Hotel Pension Sonnalp

I went in expecting a horrible stay after reading the bad reviews, but I really can't complain. They let us leave our bags in the Keller, gave us the Guest Pass for local public transport, cleaned the room, and replaced the towels. The walls are thin, that's true, but this is the cheapest place in town, so it's understandable. If you're realistic about what you're getting for the price, you shouldn't regret it, especially if you just need somewhere to sleep and spend the rest of your time outdoors.

The owner was awful to deal with. I had a bad concussion from a fall on the slopes and needed to stay in bed, so we asked if we could check out a little later. She agreed and never mentioned an extra charge. At checkout, she added 30 euros to the bill. When I pushed back because she hadn't told us about the fee, she shouted at me and insulted me. My headache got much worse afterward. Don't book here.

The rooms were far less appealing than the photos, and the pillows felt decades old. The walls are paper thin, so you can hear a neighbor snoring clearly. There's no tea kettle in the room, either. The promised bus ticket for getting around Val Gardena never arrived during the first two days of our trip, so we had to pay for buses ourselves. I've read other reviews saying people only got their ticket on the last day. The hotel is badly organized and doesn't seem to care. Communication was dreadful too. They ignored our emails, texts, and calls, making it really hard to plan the trip. We chose it because it was the cheapest accommodation in St Ulrich / Ortiesi, but I'd look a little farther out for a place with better reviews. Bus service in the area is excellent, so you don't have to stay in town. These people showed no consideration for their guests, and we had a bad stay.

We had a terrible stay and wouldn't come back. The walls were paper thin and noisy, and the curtains were so thin that lights from the neighboring hotel stayed visible all night. See pictures. We stopped at Pension Sonnalp around noon to ask if we could leave our heavy bags at reception until check-in at 5p, so we could spend the day hiking. Only the maid was there, and she refused to hold them. She couldn't reach her boss, leaving us without any solution. A nearby hotel took our bags without a problem. It was incredibly frustrating and nearly spoiled a whole day of travel. We were still kind to the maid, but the situation was completely unacceptable.
