Villa Belfiore

The food was one of the best parts: local ingredients, simple dishes that tasted amazing, and fresh vegetables I couldn’t stop eating. They also make their own jams and wine, and we had to buy some to take home. The staff and owner were very helpful and did their best to make our stay lovely. We arrived late but were still welcomed with food and drinks. The place is cozy and peaceful, with a big garden and swimming pool. Our room was right by the pool, which made it easy to cool off in the heat. I also found the salt water pool much nicer than a regular one. They’re very friendly with dogs. We have two, and even in hot weather they were welcome around the pool, though not in it, so they could stay under the trees while we enjoyed ourselves. I can’t describe how happy I was with our stay. I’d absolutely recommend it to anyone looking for a relaxed Italian weekend.

The room and breakfast were terrible, especially for €120 a night for a double room in May. The room had a two-tone toilet seat, rusty drains, a shower hose full of limescale, peeling wallpaper, and light fixtures right on the edge of highway 626. There was dust on the window and sill, a yellowed pillow, and the bed was too short for someone who’s 180 cm tall. Breakfast was just as bad: rock-hard breadsticks, moldy cake, an undercooked tart, glasses with streaks, dirty cutlery, and a “juice” made from powder and sparkling water. It should have been locally sourced. The website lists a restaurant, but it’s been closed for six months, leaving you to head out into the middle of nowhere to find somewhere to eat. The outside is well kept, but the overflowing garbage at the gate could easily have been avoided. The location is quiet, though very isolated. Not recommended.

We couldn’t use some services that the official website said were available: the restaurant was permanently closed, and the sauna was off with no suitable staff. The heating didn’t work at first, so we had to change rooms three times. Despite those issues, Mr. Pietro and Ms. Tania were exceptionally available. The owners were away on vacation, but they welcomed us warmly and took care of several problems caused by the owners’ lack of preparation and communication. Breakfast was excellent.
