Camping Village Il Pilone

We liked it so much that we ended up staying longer, after initially feeling unsure from reading other reviews. Those seemed to be from people who visited outside the season, and we didn’t recognize their complaints during our May and June stay. We could choose our pitch in advance, and the campsite really won our hearts. It’s cozy, family-friendly and well equipped, with especially pleasant staff. Everyone greeted us and was helpful. Danielle at reception speaks fluent Dutch, and her colleagues speak English. The bar is comfortable and has great coffee, sandwiches and ice cream. The restaurant has a decent range at low prices. There’s a large, clean pool and a children’s pool, €3 a day, with swimming caps available for €2. The shop, washing machine, free Wi-Fi and freezer for cool packs were handy. There were enough clean sanitary facilities, with hot showers, and they were cleaned twice daily. Power hookups are free throughout. Our cable was too short, but the campsite lent me one at no extra cost. The beach by the campsite is clean and has a lifeguard on duty continuously, plus a beach bar with sun loungers. The bathrooms were clean, but had no toilet paper or seats, and there was no hot water or soap for washing hands, despite signs about how important cleanliness is for Covid. The pool costs extra, and after I’d paid for half a day, someone pointed out a hidden sign saying swimming caps were required. Pool payment was cash only, with no ATM on site. The price also seemed to be made up as they went along. It was advertised at €25 per night plus €2 tourist tax, but after three nights I was charged €110. It’s a shame this is the only local place open in May, since there aren’t many options. Avoid if you can.

A wonderful spot for a day out as a couple or family. Outside peak season it’s free and less crowded, with clear water, healthy seaweed, good food and an incredible view. Highly recommended.

We got there five minutes after closing, and all the staff were still around but refused to help because they said they were closed. They sent us away even when we asked if we could just pitch our tent and pay the next morning. Really unfriendly staff. Not cool.
