The people here made the stay for us. Ivan and his team were wonderful, and Maria at breakfast was such a lovely host. She seemed genuinely invested in making sure we were happy and had what we wanted to eat. We were sad to leave her. The grounds are beautiful, the pool is lovely, and the setting worked well as a base for visiting beaches and towns. We especially loved Baia dei Turchi, an easy walk away. We had to switch rooms after the first night. Both were simple in comfort and decor, and the second had a very strong musty smell that seemed like mold or mildew. We told management, and they did what they could to address it. The restaurant space felt basic, though breakfast was very nice, with freshly prepared eggs available on request. There was a young family next door, and the walls let through more sound than we expected. Their toddlers were up late. That wasn’t the hotel’s fault, but it did affect us. It might be helpful if Masseria Mongio dell'Elefante and similar places had separate room areas for couples and families.

The four-course dinners were a highlight, with a different serving each time, and breakfast had so much to choose from. The pool area was splendid, the rooms and grounds fantastic, and everyone on staff was a delight. We stayed six nights in mid September and fell for this beautiful Masseria, especially with the sea so close. We hadn't imagined just how good the place would feel until we were there enjoying every minute. A rare five-star gem, and we hope to return one day. Many thanks to everyone at The Masseria. Ivan and Valentina were so welcoming and made us feel at home. We also loved the delicious breakfast and friendly service. The Masseria is charming, with large, comfortable rooms and a little kitchenette that’s handy when you’re traveling with kids. It’s close to Otranto and some beautiful beaches.

The staff were lovely and helpful, and fun to chat with even when we were speaking two different languages. At sunrise we walked the short distance to the rocky headland sticking out into the sea. We also took the free bikes into Otranto. We had a wonderful few days. Thanks to the team.

Lovely pool and a wonderful spa, and it’s close to the best beach ever. The beds felt a bit hard for us.
