Il Borgo di San Gervasio

I found this a very convenient base for visiting Tuscany. Pisa, Lucca, and Florence were easy to reach, and getting to other parts of the region was straightforward too.

We stayed in number 4, and it was a nightmare. The apartment was filthy, with dead bugs on the floor and urine stains on the bathroom fixtures. One of the two bathrooms couldn’t be used: it was very dirty, had no shower curtain, and the lights didn’t work. Despite countless reminders, nobody helped. We were left without electricity or a shower. Disgusting!

The quiet setting and sweeping countryside views made our time here especially lovely. Inside, the apartment was spotless, comfortable, and stocked with everything we needed. The owners were warm and helpful, always easy to reach and full of good ideas for things to do nearby. We felt welcome from the start, and would gladly stay at Il Borgo di San Gervasio again. The place was cold, damp, and infested with bedbugs. Dirt was everywhere, from the kitchen and bathroom to the tiles, cookware, beds, plates, glasses, and sponges. The boiler had no pressure, and by chance we found the valve that got the water running again. Getting inside was an ordeal too: in pitch darkness by the gate, we had to hunt for the remote and the key after finding our way through the dark woods. It felt more like a cave than an apartment. We didn't contact the owners because the arrangement seemed to be that guests handled everything themselves and emailed if there was a problem, with nobody answering. They never came by, even on our last day. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. I wish zero stars were an option.
