Ai Vicerè

We’re traveling on a budget for a month, and this was easily our favorite affordable place. The building itself was a treat, with a door within a door at the entrance and an old lift that still works. Our room was spacious, the mattress was good, and the view was nice. It’s right at the edge of the busy part of town, which worked well for us. And the breakfast was huge and the best we’ve had in Italy, better than other budget hotels and B&Bs, and even some restaurants.

The breakfast at Ai Vicere gave us exactly the fuel we needed for the first stage of the Sicily Divide, including that big climb. We also found the staff really accommodating with taking our bikes apart and setting them up again for the ride. They even let us leave our bike bags there while we were on the road. It worked perfectly for our Palermo stopovers at the beginning and end of the trip.

The accommodations were adequate, but I’d flag two things. Breakfast might cost extra, even though the place calls itself a “bed and breakfast.” Also, the website photo shows a young couple on a balcony overlooking a lovely city view. The view from our window was quite different, as shown in the photo I attached.

We missed breakfast the next morning, so I let them know, and they kindly left a breakfast box in our room. The room and bathroom were clean, quiet, comfortable, and welcoming. It’s a great place right in the center. A 10/10 stay for us, and I’d definitely recommend it.
