Alle Porte del Capo

The one redeeming thing is the central location. The room was moldy and disgusting. There were no sheets on the beds, only a mattress cover covered in someone else's hair, and the pillows had no cases and were stained. We couldn't get in with the code they gave us, so we rang the doorbell. Staff told us to go away because there was no vacancy, even after we said we had a reservation. Eventually someone picked up the phone and sent us to another unit with a different code. They were incredibly rude. Breakfast was just store-bought sweet bread. Honestly, avoid the place.

Nightlife is right on the doorstep here, so it suits people who enjoy that. The apartment is one lovely, large room with a kitchenette and bathroom, and it's close to Teatro Massimo, Teatro Politeama, the Cathedral, Via Maqueda, Ballarò market, and Via Roma. My main issue was the noise. It's at street level, about 50 meters from Pub 99, and teenagers keep the place lively on Saturdays and Sundays until 5 a.m. The 50-square-meter apartment also doesn't have a single proper window. That's why I gave it 4-.

The location is good, but the room was a shock. It's basically a basement with two tiny windows, which the photos don't make clear. The entrance opens straight onto the street, and with constant traffic and bars opposite, it feels unsafe and gets noisy. The street itself is dirty, untidy, and doesn't feel very safe either. The bathroom door wouldn't close properly. We asked the owner to fix it, but he ignored us. Breakfast included a bag of shop-bought croissants, a coffee machine that worked only sometimes, and very sweet, chemical-tasting juice in the fridge. The owner obviously doesn't speak English, which made communication difficult. I wouldn't recommend it.

The B&B is spotless and comfortable, and the staff are friendly, welcoming, and qualified. It's in Palermo's beautiful historic center, just steps from Teatro Massimo and a few meters from the famous "Il Capo" market. I highly recommend it.
