B&B Ungheria Ottantaquattro

Noemi was so kind and helpful, especially with arranging our Mondello trip and sharing useful local information. She even let us leave our bags after checkout. The B&B is really a large apartment divided into about five or six rooms, with a shared area where you can get tea and coffee. It’s centrally placed, a short walk from many attractions and tour starting points in Palermo. Our room was clean, and although the entrance approach and old-fashioned escalator looked a bit odd, it worked fine and the three of us felt safe returning late. Breakfast was the one disappointment. You could choose one drink and one savory item or pastry. The food was nicely prepared, but for a place called a B&B I’d have liked more choice, perhaps fruit, yogurt, bread, or cereal. I enjoyed staying here and would recommend it.

We had free coffee and tea, helpful staff, and air conditioning included. The room was much cleaner than at some places we’d stayed before. You can park right outside for a reasonable fee, we paid 5.50 for the night. Everything in the city was walkable from here. It gets noisier on weekends, but the other days were very quiet.

Ungheria is a great base for tourists. The street behind has plenty of places to eat and drink, from bistros and a taverna to a steakhouse and bars, plus stalls with chocolate, cheese, crafts, clothes, and small accessories. There are also banks and ATMs nearby. The graffiti on the parking area and columns in the corridors might put some people off, but I saw it as an arty tagger zone. My tour guide driver blamed local communists. The B&B is on the third floor, reached by lift, and the rooms are well heated with ensuite bathrooms. Access was self-service and the instructions were clear. There’s a free Tes tea and coffee service in the foyer around the clock, with croissants, cookies, or raspberry tart, along with vouchers for coffee and a pastry at 'Bistrot Cafe'. I’d definitely stay again.

Noemi was very helpful when she welcomed us. The rooms were modern and very clean, and the B&B sits right in the centre on a quiet street. Highly recommended.
