Ballarò Hotel

Fresh sheets and towels were provided every day, and the staff were pleasant, though they leave in the afternoon. There are good food spots and bars nearby, and the main squares and streets are within walking distance. We didn't feel unsafe, but the area right outside seemed a little sketchy. It's a decent budget hotel, as long as that's what you're expecting. Our room had a sewage smell whenever the windows were open, which improved when we shut them, and there were a couple of small bugs in the bathroom on the first night.

The location is perfect, and the rooms were lovely and extremely clean. The building has lots of character. The Italian woman at the desk suggested a beautiful church for us to visit, and she was very friendly, like the rest of the staff. They cleaned the rooms thoroughly every day. Breakfast was good, with a decent choice. I highly recommend it.

I don't usually write hotel reviews, even though I often review restaurants, but this place really stuck with me. You go through a peeling courtyard in a centuries-old palazzo, then up a mysterious staircase with no lift, and arrive at a spacious, modern hotel that's well equipped and spotless. The staff were incredibly helpful. It's near the station and in the old town. I loved staying here and would come back.

The beds were hard, and the neighborhood felt shady, but the old Italian building has real charm. The staff were the best part, amazing, helpful, dedicated and quick to respond.
