Katerina I.
The bathroom had a window, but the view was of garbage, just like from the bedroom. The owner told me that if the sea can be seen from another room, the apartment counts as having a sea view. I'll remember that next time a hotel claims a sea view because the staff toilet looks out at it. I've attached a photo. The towels were gray, the room smelled damp, and the old air conditioner had yellowed with age. This was an awful stay, and I can't recommend the place. The trouble started with the Booking listing, or whichever accommodation site you use. It showed bright, attractive photos, advertised a sea view and balcony, and appeared under the "show only hotels" filter. But you enter through an apartment building, with no reception and nobody there to meet you. The residents you encounter don't know you're coming, and they don't speak English. Outside, there were huge piles of garbage and a strong urine smell. After taking the elevator, I found a keybox and an old wooden door. Inside was an apartment shared with complete strangers. The room door was so thin it felt like cardboard, so you could hear and feel the presence of the other people. The door was dirty too, with a huge stain around the knob from the hands of hundreds of previous guests. I took a photo. After seeing that, I wanted to wash up, but the bathroom was less than a metre across. It was only practical for a child to get in, and an adult couldn't enter and close the door. There was also a human hair on the shower faucet. If you want to shower with a stranger's hair, this is the place. It cost 550 euros for the five days I was supposed to stay. I left after one night, but only stayed that long because I'd been travelling for 12 hours and had two flights. When I messaged the owner on WhatsApp to say I was leaving the next day, I got no reply. He never answered, even when I said I'd left the keys in the keybox. No apology, no offer of compensation, and no money back. I feel I gave the owner a present, since I couldn't live in such filthy, unsanitary conditions. I'm an experienced traveler and have visited many countries, cities, and hotels across Eastern and Western Europe and Asia. I can't say I've ever seen a hotel like this, and I don't mean that as praise. I don't know who writes the positive reviews, perhaps the owner's friends. Here's my honest review, with a photo attached.

The rooms were dirty.

The woman serving breakfast was very friendly, though we never saw the owner. It's a little far from the centre, and the building is very old. The rooms are small, and the bathroom was only screened off.

The best part was being able to have breakfast on the balcony overlooking the sea, and make coffee whenever I wanted. Toni and his wife were kind, thoughtful hosts and made me feel at home as soon as I arrived. After three wonderful days at B&B Porta Amari, I've just returned from Palermo grateful for their tips on seeing and enjoying the city. The B&B was clean and tidy, and breakfast was delicious. Thank you for the lovely stay, and see you soon, Erminia.

We had a really pleasant few days at this quiet place in Palermo. It's in a great location, the service was excellent, they took care of everything we needed, and breakfast was delicious. Our room for two adults and a small child was spacious and clean, with its own bathroom, though the sink was small. For future guests, the rooms with sinks outside the room are much larger and more modern, and have a balcony. Wi-Fi worked quite well. 100% recommended! 💚🤍❤️
