Hotel Tirreno

We spent four nights in August 2024 and had a wonderful time. The poolside room was fantastic, and we enjoyed the pool every day. Giovanni made it even better, bringing fresh sandwiches with just picked tomatoes and basil, cold beer, ice and cocktails with fresh mint. Thanks, Giovanni, for being so kind and looking after us. The beautiful beach is an easy walk away, or there’s a free hotel shuttle, and beach chairs are included. I’d highly recommend this place.

We’ll definitely come back. It’s such a relaxing place, both at mealtimes and by the pool, and the restaurant is fantastic for breakfast and dinner. The staff were genuinely lovely, polite and easy to chat with. There’s a nice trattoria just a minute away if you want a change, and Parghelia is a five minute walk, with its quiet Italian town feel, supermarkets, cafés and restaurants. We also stopped by the American Bar once or twice a day. Best hotel we’ve ever stayed in.

The beach nearby was a highlight, with white sand and clear water. The hotel shuttle also makes it easy to get to the beach or city center. This family run hotel in Parghelia, on the southern Calabria coast, is just four minutes from Tropea city center. We loved Tirreno 12 years ago and can’t wait to return. Michele, Stefania and Franco, thank you! From arrival, everyone greeted us warmly and made us feel at home. The gardens are peaceful and beautifully kept, with flowers, trimmed trees and hedges all cared for with real attention. Our suite overlooked the pool and sea and had its own terrace. It was spotless, comfortable, traditionally furnished and well stocked. I especially liked the bathrobe, and the staff were thoughtful about the details throughout our stay. It’s a lovely retreat near both the sea and the city, with genuine southern Italian hospitality.

Tropea is around a 20 to 25 minute walk, with a climb of about 200 steps into town, or a longer walk that gets you to a route with 100 steps. There are free shuttles to the private beach during the day and to Tropea in the evening. The hotel is family run and sits in a quiet spot about 1 km outside Tropea. I loved my stay at Hotel Tirreno. Our room was clean, spacious and had good views. We were on half board and the food was very good. The gardens are beautiful and the pool area is lovely. The staff were fantastic and went out of their way to help with things like taxis, excursions and local information. I’d definitely recommend both the hotel and a visit to Calabria, it’s a beautiful part of Italy. I’ll be back!
