Leoni gave us an impressive tour of his farm and shared his vision for sustainable communities. He was a generous host during our overnight stay. The rooms are basic, though comfortable, and the cheese he makes is amazing. You can buy it there.

We’ve returned at least five times, mainly because Trattoria Vigolante is just three minutes away. It’s world famous and very reasonably priced. This is a working farm producing what I consider the finest Parmegiano Reggiano cheese. The rooms are plain but very clean. Leoni has only one room on the ground floor, and the others are up the stairs.

Mr Leoni is a lovely man, passionate about saving Italy’s small farms. Staying here is a wonderful way for travellers to get to know a little of Italy, rather than just see it.
