Grand Hotel Miramonti

It’s about a minute’s walk to the slopes, which was the one clear plus for us. The ski room was chaotic and overcrowded, open to the public, with no lockers and no room for our gear. The room and hotel weren’t clean, and there was a lot of mold in the shower and room, a serious health hazard. The staff were unfriendly and didn’t speak English. The food was 4/10, nowhere near four-star standard. WiFi was terrible and didn’t work in the rooms. They don’t tell you that everyone needs a swim cap for the pool, so you’re forced to buy one there. Every drink costs extra, even tap water at dinner. The Jacuzzi was tiny, maximum four people with a constant line, and the water wasn’t hot. Heating was restricted to just 30 minutes every four hours at night, even though it was -22°C outside, so we were freezing. It felt like a stingy hotel trying to squeeze every Euro out of you. I don’t understand the four-star rating. I’ve stayed in one-star hotels that were better. Save your money and stay away.

The location is great, true ski-in ski-out. But after six nights, I was dying to get home. The food was so bad we bought meals at the local supermarket, and it definitely wasn’t four-star hotel food. The rooms weren’t four-star quality either, I’ve stayed in American motels with nicer ones. WiFi was very poor. Hard to care about that when you’re hungry from the bad food.

The only good thing about the hotel is its location. The dining room was awful, with very long waits for ordered dishes and, in many cases, food that was inedible. For example, they served a moldy cake, and I only noticed after I’d eaten some. Our room was small, the bathroom lock barely opened, and the safe didn’t work. There was a rotten smell in the room the whole time, no matter how much we opened the windows. The hotel is below any acceptable standard. Its connection to a four-star rating seems purely coincidental.

The hotel is just a snowball’s throw from the runs and lifts, and there’s plenty of parking. I’ve stayed twice, and it’s been great both times. Rooms and bathrooms are always very clean. The staff are extremely hospitable and polite, the food is very good, and the spa facilities are great. There’s also a convenient, spacious ski room with heated ski and boot storage. A great experience all around.
