Il Poggio degli Antichi Sapori - Residence

Mr. Gerardo deserved an extra star, and so did the property, but problems during our short stay mean I can't rate it above three. We came with three other couples and booked four rooms. The grounds are lovely, with plenty of outdoor space, a beautiful lawn, a little playground, and a spa with a hot tub for 3-4 people and a sauna for 2-3. Our room was not large, but fit two adults and a child comfortably. It had no bidet, though the toilet had a built-in shower, which I used despite the broken tap and leaks I had to mop up. One room had an external bathroom a few meters away in the corridor beside another room, something we hadn't been told when booking. Another room, in a nearby space intended for a future spa, had no hot water that evening or the next morning. Those service issues cost the place a star, but the biggest effect on our holiday came from the way the lady with Gerardo treated us. I assume she was his wife, though she never introduced herself. On arrival, she reprimanded us for leaving the front door open because the inside lights would stay on. We were waiting two minutes for friends coming from their rooms. We didn't explain, just apologized, and that was that. We had dinner at the property that evening. It was simple but good, and Gerardo explained each course. The dishes came out in a rush, though, and my wife was asked several times if the child's plate could be taken away while he was still eating at his own pace. She had already apologized and said it would take him a while. By dessert, my wife was still finishing her main course because she'd fed the baby first, and the dessert plate was set beside the meat. After dinner we chatted, but Gerardo's wife, I presume, rudely told us to leave because "it was April 25th for them too". Dinner ran from 8 to 9:10 PM. A friend also asked for a glass of water for her daughter and was told no because the dishwasher had already been loaded. The next morning, the same woman scolded us again about the usual open door, although her friends were about to leave. She didn't even offer a polite hello. I feel bad for Mr. Gerardo, who deserved that extra star.

Il Poggio degli Antichi Sapori is tucked away in the greenery, a lovely spot for a few quiet days. I stayed two nights with my children, who had a great time and got to see the animals at the small local educational farm. The rooms were clean and the food was authentic. The pool is nice, though it gets crowded on Saturdays and Sundays because day visitors use it too. My only complaint is that it wasn't clear which extras cost more: the whirlpools, sauna, adventure park, and horseback riding.

The pool is a real bonus and kept immaculately. Guests can also use the Finnish sauna and hot tub. The rooms are clean, air-conditioned, and comfortable, and the owners take great care of the property. The beautiful setting made our stay at Poggio wonderful. Pier Luigi, the owner, is attentive and always ready to help with whatever guests need. We'll have to come back soon for a few days of total relaxation!

We had a lovely, restful weekend here, my girlfriend and I. Mr. Gerardo and his son Pierluigi welcomed us warmly and went out of their way to meet our requests, so we felt at home. Our room was clean and comfortable, just a few steps from the pool and the dining and breakfast area. The bed was great, and we slept really well. We chose half board, breakfast and dinner, and the food was delicious and locally sourced. There were homemade pastries, cakes and pies, pasta, and tasty homemade sauce and olive oil. We even bought some to take home. Il Poggio is surrounded by nature and animals, with an educational garden and an adventure area too. The loungers were comfortable and there was plenty of space between umbrellas. The pool was always clean and well cared for, but maybe too small for the number of people there that weekend. With so many children constantly diving and playing ball, there wasn't much room to swim freely or relax beside it. Still, many thanks to the owners for a relaxing, enjoyable stay. It certainly won't be our last.
