The food itself was excellent, but I left feeling cheated by the bill. I ordered truffle gnocchi and steak with red wine, and paid 110 euros. I live in Turin and speak some Italian, so I chatted with the nonna, who apologized when preparing the bill and said the truffles were so expensive. But earlier that same day I'd had truffles on both a starter and main at another place for 14 euros extra in total. Here, one course was charged 40 euros for the truffles. They're listed on a degustation menu, but Turin has nicer restaurants with menus at 35-40 euros. Before the bill arrived, I would have recommended the restaurant and happily returned. It's a shame, but this wasn't a 110 euro meal. I'd read Tripadvisor comments calling them greedy, and sadly that was my experience too.

The countryside is lovely, the place has a quaint, comfortable feel, and the food was wonderful. We loved the romantic setting. My only complaint is that the owner, who's an excellent chef, is very cranky and unfriendly. Get past that and it's a wonderful spot.

We had lunch at the Relais today, and the dishes and service went well beyond what we already expected. The new chef and Mr. Aldo, the new head waiter, were friendly, very professional and attentive. One guest was vegan, and after mentioning it in advance, he had a wide choice of delicious dishes, not just the usual grilled vegetables and salads. The quality was excellent, with plenty of truffles and superb wines, and the welcome felt genuinely warm, something you don't often find at places like this. Recommended.
