B&B C'era Una Volta

The hillside views of Lake Como are stunning, and breakfast is included. The neighborhood is quiet and local, and the family-style B&B gives you a warm, holiday-with-family feeling. It’s in a historic home older than Napoleon, and the original design and culture have been preserved. The host speaks six languages, including Italian, English, and Indonesian, so guests feel at home. A good fit for backpackers, students, couples, and motor riders looking for an authentic Lake Como experience.

The decor was beautiful, and you could tell every corner had received a lot of love and attention. Alessandro and his wife looked after us so well and were always warm and friendly. We had a fantastic stay and would definitely return. Highly recommend it!

This is a historic, local area, with a lovely restaurant close by. Our hosts were welcoming, generous, and knew the area well. The rooms were large and extremely comfortable, and the breakfast was the best we’ve had in Italy. You can’t count on walking to town, the train, or the ferry. You’ll need a car or some other transport.

There’s a lovely viewpoint with benches nearby, and the B&B itself was clean, beautifully decorated, and had cozy, amazing breakfasts each morning. Alessandro and his wife were fabulous hosts and knew just what to recommend. We had plenty of hot water and heat, and the room had a cool furnace/fireplace so we could adjust the temperature how we liked. Buses only run during certain hours. If you need a taxi, it costs 20€ from Varenna train station. The host kindly calls one for you if you message him. It’s quite a walk up the hill, so I wouldn’t try walking to the B&B from the station.
