Hotel Ilgo

The staff are the best, the bed was comfortable, and the hotel is well signposted. There's parking, aircon, and decent coffee too. There isn't much soundproofing between the rooms, though. This place is a time capsule, and it could be fun to celebrate it as a full-on 70s experience. Think ABBA nights, fondue parties, Black Forest gateau, Mateus Rose, classic films, or themed evenings for Saturday Night Fever, One flew over the cuckoo's nest, and Jaws. Guests could wear flares, platforms, or tie-dye, with chopper bikes and Space Hoppers in the car park at their own risk, and staff dressed as Farah Fawcett or Jason King. Maybe it could snowball, or Babycham, into the next big thing. A major renovation would be a big financial risk given the location, but leaning into the existing 70s feel could be genius. Imagine going back to that decade, before we realised we'd trashed the planet and our internal organs.

Ilgo Hotel feels like a survivor from the 70s. It's very clean, the room air conditioning is great, and the view from the roof and our little balcony was beautiful. The mattresses felt like camp beds and weren't easy to sleep on. The city centre is a bit too far for walking to shops, sights, or restaurants, so be ready to take a taxi.

The view was great and the scenery felt magical. Waking up to birds singing was awesome, and the food was delicious. Everything was very clean, and room service was regular but so discreet you hardly noticed it. The staff were helpful, friendly, and professional.

We spent four days here and were out exploring town most of the time, so the side room without a balcony suited us fine, even if it wasn't especially luxurious. The staff were friendly and very helpful, and the hotel's prices felt reasonable. We tried the restaurant on our last evening and liked it so much that we wished we'd eaten there more often. I'd stay here again if I get the chance.
