Relais San Clemente

We were impressed by the grounds, with two outdoor pools, tennis and volleyball courts, and a lush green park that smelled of lavender. Inside, we found a pool table, a piano, and a large display of paintings by a French painter. There's even a small church on the property. I went with my family, including two young kids, and it felt like a romantic historic place.

The rooms were very clean, and the setting in the Umbrian countryside was beautiful. We had delicious food at the restaurant. Antonio was our waiter, made excellent suggestions, and looked after us well. The 2016 Montefalco Sagrantino La Carraia wine he recommended was exquisite. Grazie Antonio! 🍷

The staff were super friendly and professional, and we had good experiences with them. The restaurant was very good. When there aren't many guests, half board is à la carte, which is much better than the buffet. The room had all the facilities, and housekeeping was good, but the minibar barely cooled and neither did the AC. The view was mostly the side of a tree, when I'd expected more of the gardens. We also didn't get a welcome drink. Please make sure there's enough cold soda in the fridge. More than once, staff had to apologize for bringing us warm Coke. The drinks are pricey, so those mistakes hurt. All in all, it's a good, beautiful hotel and a good base for visiting nearby cities. A few things to bear in mind, but it's OK.

We had dinner at the hotel since there was nothing else within walking distance. It was good, and breakfast the next day was even better. Staff were very polite and helpful, and we had a great stay overall. Although the hotel is remote, it's a splendid place to stay. They mistakenly gave us a twin room, but when we asked to change, they upgraded us automatically. Our first-floor room was huge and very clean, with a window looking onto a beautiful garden.
