We especially loved the people, the shared meals around the big table, and the sense of community. There’s a feeling here that anything goes, alongside a magnificent view across the valley. Borgo Batone is an abandoned village about 20 minutes from Lucca, now being lovingly restored by a community. The villa, garden, and pool are already beautifully done, while the other buildings are being renovated little by little. The people working on it bring the village to life. We love the place.

We had a wonderful stay, thanks in part to the fantastic house and location and the amazing pool. The cleanliness needs some attention, though, and the amenities could be better, especially the kitchen.
