The owner, who is the host’s father, was so friendly and always ready with suggestions for places to visit or eat. He swept the leaves from our terrace each morning and even reminded us to watch for wild boars on the drive back at night. The last part of the route is an unpaved road through the woods. We still look back fondly on our Tuscany break, loved Pescia and enjoyed going back to Lucca, despite the heat. Our shaded terrace was a lovely spot for lunch and dinner, with the woods right by the apartment wall. We also really appreciated the pool during the scorching weather, though there’s no umbrella. The first guests can get some shade under an olive tree, but it fits only about two people. The pool gets sun in the morning and until early afternoon. The farmhouse sits in the woods just above Pescia. The host’s brother met us and showed us to the apartment. Getting there meant climbing very high outdoor stairs with no handrail, which was difficult for me because of my back. I held on to a low wall. Inside, the apartment is charming, spacious and comfortable, with air conditioning in the living room and bedroom. The bed was comfortable and it was quiet, so we slept well. The bathroom is tiny, there’s no towel rail, and the plastic shower curtain didn’t keep water from getting everywhere. During our four-night stay, the sheets and towels weren’t changed.
