What I’ll remember most is the time spent with the families we met there. Our New Year’s break with my family somehow turned into a holiday with a much bigger family. Everyone made us feel welcome, from Simon Luca, who helped us when we booked, to Emilio and Carla, who served us so kindly at the table. We tried traditional Molise dishes, and breakfast came with delicious doughnuts in several varieties. The place is in Pescopennataro, and the views along the winding road up are lovely. Its simple, welcoming feel shows how much charm there can be in the little things. Congratulations to everyone who believed in this place’s potential. We had a great time here. The air felt so clean and fresh, and it’s a lovely spot for summer walks beneath the silver firs as well as skiing. Go and see for yourself, you’ll be thrilled.

There was plenty of room for the kids to play safely, and the staff were extremely friendly. The hotel sits among the greenery of the Molise Apennines, with basic rooms and activity packages for getting out into nature, including trekking, quad biking, and excursions. We were there for a long weekend as a group of 30 adults and 20 children, and had a wonderful time.

We came away disappointed. For a lunch we’d booked in mid-August, everything felt rather careless. The starter was meagre, portions of the first courses weren’t consistent, and the main dishes ranged from fair to poor. The lamb was meant to be the second course, but who knows what it actually was. A charming setting had raised our expectations, and the meal didn’t live up to them.
