Hotel Ovest

Fabio at reception was especially welcoming, friendly, and kind throughout my stay. The rest of the staff were nice too, and breakfast had a good range and great quality. Everything, from the rooms to the common areas, was extremely clean and tidy. The mattress was really comfortable, and the wide shower with its large head was a welcome touch. Though the hotel sits at an intersection, the windows keep the noise out. The rooms are cozy and have all the comforts. There are several parking spaces for a large car, though some are quite narrow. You can also park in the courtyard or along the road. Highly recommended.

I come to Piacenza quite regularly for conferences at the University, and this is my first choice. It’s easy to reach by car from the motorway, and they lend out bicycles for getting around town. Excellent service and a good breakfast, too.

The breakfast was basic but good quality, and the price felt right for what you got. Our room was spacious enough, and even though the windows faced the street, they blocked the sound well. The hotel itself is nice. But the stay was completely spoiled for me when we scraped the bottom of our Volvo V40 both going down into the car park and climbing back out. I’ve never hit anything with the underside of my car and hope I never hear that awful sound again. They really should only let SUVs and crossovers in. A regular city car sits too low for the entrance and can easily get damaged.

**2021, first visit:** Thanks to the friendly, helpful staff. My single room had a queen-size bed, and everything was clean and in good condition. The bed was too hard for me, but that’s personal taste and anatomy. The breakfast buffet looked small at first, though it had what you needed. Because of corona, I chose what I wanted and the staff put it on a plate. The WiFi was fast, and the minibar prices were fine for a hotel. Parking costs 10€ a day, which is a lot, though the areas are closed and secure. On arrival, that setup was confusing: I first had to find a public space before getting the parking information at check-in. My desk and bed were so close that I couldn’t pull the chair back enough to sit comfortably while using my laptop. The TV only had Italian programs, not even BBC or CNN. The scrambled eggs and bacon were very cold every day. I’d stay again, but I’d check the desk space before accepting a room. **2023 update:** I had a better room this time, with more space, and found nearly everything very good. The chair at the desk is still too low for comfortable, ergonomic laptop work, but I’ve found that in 95% of hotels, even higher-end ones. Room designers should be better educated. I didn’t use the TV, but my colleague said there are now two or three German channels, so that’s improved. Thanks to management. One thing about breakfast: I’ve had it a few times now and noticed the scrambled eggs are made from powder. Not good. I’m sure professional kitchens can get better options. And thanks again to the front desk team, everyone was totally friendly and helpful.
