Cantunera Sicilian Room

Really good value for a comfortable, clean B&B. It’s easy to get to the shuttle for Villa Romana del Casale. Breakfast is coffee and a croissant at the little cafe across the street.

The breakfast room at Cantunera Sicilian Room was warm and cozy, and we had a lovely breakfast there. Christine asked the day before what time suited us, then served bread, salumi, cheese, fresh orange juice, and coffee, and cooked eggs to order. She’d also made biancomangiare, a Sicilian milk pudding from her grandmother’s recipe, the night before and surprised us with it as we left. It was a very touching gesture. We enjoyed talking with Christine, with Google Translate helping since we know almost no Italian beyond “buongiorno” and “grazie.” For the price, the best of our two-week trip in Sicily, this was excellent value. We’d happily return. Our Castellina Room was lovely, with a small desk, coffee machine, mini fridge, large wardrobe, safe, and a gorgeous bathroom. We especially liked the rain shower, and the free Wi-Fi worked very well. The B&B had only opened in spring 2023 and was beautifully decorated throughout and spotlessly clean. There are four rooms on different levels, with stairs between them. Our room was up two flights from the landing. If stairs or carrying bags are a concern, tell Christine, the owner and host, and she’ll help with the luggage. The Canalli Room is on the same floor as ours, another room is one flight down, and the fourth is a short flight below the landing. That room is on the same level as the breakfast room, which has another door leading outside. The landing door opens onto the small car park. It’s at the end of a long block on Via Salvatore Principato, right at the edge of the historic center. Turn the corner and head up Via Roma, and the main historic sights are within a 15-minute walk. It’s handy if you’re driving too, with free parking in front, so there’s no need to tackle the historic center’s maze of streets. We highly recommend Cantunera Sicilian Room.

The host knew the main attractions well, helped us with everything, and was flexible about check-in. When we needed indoor parking for our motorcycle, they arranged for us to leave it in a garage about a kilometer away and drove us there on arrival and departure. La Cantunera is new, spotless, comfortable, and close to the center of Piazza Armerina. A great B&B, highly recommended.
