Agriturismo Cretaiole

It’s the care this family gives their guests that really makes Cretaiole special. They offer things to do, from hikes and Etruscan history to seeing the farm and animals, learning about winemaking, and a pasta class. They also share loads of tips on where to eat and visit, where to park, and what to avoid. They seem to truly care about helping guests have a wonderful time in Tuscany. The setting is quiet and peaceful, close to fabulous Pienza, with beautiful Val d'Orcia views. The beds are super comfortable, and the rooms feel artful and homey. Everyone was attentive to detail, friendly, and warm. Five stars aren’t enough. I’d go back in a heartbeat. April was a lovely time, with everything green and lush and fewer tourists.

The hospitality from Carlo, Leonie and Nicco is what turned this stay into a lifelong memory. They treated us like family and shared personal suggestions and genuine experiences you won’t find in a guidebook. The setting is wonderfully peaceful, high on a hill in the heart of Val d’Orcia, with sweeping views across vineyards and olive groves. Cretaiole is a beautifully preserved 14th-century farmhouse, with original stone walls and wooden beams alongside modern comforts. It surpassed every expectation, a true taste of Tuscany. 10/10.

The cooking class and dinner felt like something from a movie, and it’s an experience I’ll never forget. The farm itself was gorgeous, and we could drive to several breathtaking little towns in 10-15 minutes. Between the accommodations, location, and hosts, the whole stay felt magical. One of the most beautiful experiences of my life. I can’t say enough about it!

Thirteen years after our first visit, when we promised ourselves we’d return to Cretaiole with the kids, we finally made it back. It was phenomenal. Everyone, whatever their age, seemed to have a big smile, especially after seeing the amazing Tuscan hills from the property. Nicco and Leonie have taken over the reins flawlessly, while Carlo and Lucciano are still very involved and bring their own special touch. From the welcome basket to the goodbye hugs, we felt like part of the Moricciani family, and every request was taken care of happily and perfectly. The Dolce Vita package and add-ons are worth every penny. The Florentine steak dinner at a local butcher’s family home and the Caseificio Piu sheep farm and cheese experience were both epic. Cretaiole is still our favorite place in Pienza, in Italy, maybe in the world. Thank you, Moriccianis. We’ll return again one day!
