The beach setup, location, and views were fantastic, and Piraino is a cute town within walking distance. The resort and apartments were very clean, with a decent pool and a solid layout. Thursday morning’s receptionist was helpful and focused on good service. The food was OK by southern Italian standards, though nothing made us stop and say, “wow, that’s pretty good.” We were expecting more after seeing the 4.5-star Google rating. The kids’ animation staff were nice, but didn’t bring the passion and excitement we’ve seen at other resorts. Dinner on half board could use a better kitchen and more drinks to choose from. It was just house red or white wine, with no real alternative for someone who doesn’t drink wine or would rather have cola or beer. Breakfast coffee was terrible, made by an out-of-date Nescafé machine. For a 4-star resort, I’d expect barista-level coffee included in the price. A cappuccino from the bar at breakfast cost extra. I always ask myself whether I’d come back. For Riviera del Sole, the answer is that it was OK, but we won’t book another stay.

The best part for me was the private beach right beside the hotel. We spent a week at Riviera del Sole and came away surprised by how much there was to enjoy. The spa and pool, soccer and tennis fields, and other activities catered to kids, teens, and older guests. The staff were kind and always ready to help, with smiles that made us feel safe and welcome. The hotel was clean and modern, and the food was delicious, with the flavors and specialties of Sicilia. One lovely extra was a cactus leaf from the owner to take home, along with his helpful instructions for planting it. We had a perfect vacation.

Even in high season, this was the quietest place we've ever stayed. There were other guests around, but it never felt crowded or too noisy. The apartments were clean and practical, though the cupboards could use some new hangers. We loved being right beside an amazing beach, and the pool was big and well maintained. The restaurant was very good, although it only offered a fixed menu.
