I expected a 9.3-rated place on Booking to match what we found, but it really didn’t. The owner asked us to leave a 10, which made me wonder how the score got so high. I wanted Booking to inspect the place, but they said they couldn’t and asked for photos instead. We’d booked a room advertised with mountain, garden and river views. The first room we were shown had no window, and the shower door was broken. The smell was the worst part: stale, musty and stuffy, and it clung to me even after leaving. I slept between a towel and my own blanket, then had to wash it as soon as I got home. There was also a strong urine smell by the bathroom toilet, and my skin itched during those few days. We didn’t want to stay, but we’d paid and weren’t getting a refund, so we asked to see another room. The owner agreed. That one had a few windows, though they faced the street and had only a thin curtain, so the room got a lot of sun. Some people may be fine with that. The room looked like the pictures, but they didn’t show the hygiene issues. I don’t know what the small bits on the blankets were, but the blankets seemed not to have been washed in a long time. The shampoo and body wash came as one piece, and it looked like it had already been used. I don’t know whether that meets post-Covid hygiene rules. We ended up leaving before our planned stay, with no reimbursement. Breakfast was uncomfortable for me too: the owner’s chatter may suit some guests, but I’d rather eat in private. There was a strong stuffy smell, and I found it very unpleasant to eat while noticing what seemed like the owner’s unwashed armpits. Also, there’s no Wi-Fi, which I’d taken for granted.

The place is wonderfully quiet, set along an internal road, and well positioned for getting around the Aosta Valley. It stays cool without air conditioning, and there’s a hairdryer, toiletries and fresh linen. For the season, location, cleanliness and privacy, the price felt fair. It’s a wooden house with a bedroom and private bathroom, tucked among fields beside a river. The garden is lovely, with ponds and plenty of greenery, and there are spots for sun or shade. The whole place is striking, and the materials have been treated with real care. The host is friendly and helpful, and made me feel at home straight away. He clearly loves the property and told me about each stage of its construction, which he oversaw himself. He used to be a mountain guide and was glad to suggest places to visit. Highly recommended.

A few days before arrival, the owner got in touch with a discounted price and said breakfast wasn’t included, blaming Booking.com. Payment is in cash and there’s no invoice. The room is roomy, but it has a heavy musty smell. And the lake view is actually a man-made pond the owner made in front of the property.

The place is exceptionally quiet, and the owner is kind and ready to help with anything. He also gave us really useful suggestions for activities and other needs. We stayed in a lovely rustic-style room, and the B&B is a great base for exploring the Aosta Valley. Very nice, and I’d recommend it for a restful stay.

What made the stay feel so personal was the care Remo puts into the place. He oversaw its restoration and design himself, and you can feel how much thought went into making guests feel at home in an authentic Aosta Valley setting. We spent two nights here with friends over a ski weekend in Torgnon and Cervinia. The garden is beautifully kept, and the setting is charming. Breakfast was a real highlight, with lots of delicious, high-quality things to choose from. We also appreciated the thoughtful services and the warm, welcoming atmosphere. It’s unusual to find comfort, beauty and such genuine hospitality together. We had a memorable time at Maison Lazier and hope to come back. A peaceful, charming place in the heart of the Aosta Valley.
