Grand Santa Domitilla

This is a beautiful hotel tucked into a garden, sheltered from strong winds, and only a few minutes' walk from the Main Streets and port. The decor is tasteful, and the atmosphere feels relaxed and sophisticated. Anyone looking for a universal modern design or ultra luxury probably shouldn't go to Ponza, but we loved this place. It worked well for adults and children. We had young kids with us, so we used the hot pools in the spa in the mornings and the two swimming pools after lunch. In the afternoon, the spa is for adults only, which gives people a chance to enjoy some quiet. The restaurant and food were fantastic, and the staff there were especially wonderful. Filippa was the sweetest. They really know how to make everyone feel looked after.

The rooms are small, really just enough space to sleep, but the hotel is clean throughout, including the pools and rooms. Service was quite attentive, and someone was always available. Breakfast was a pleasure, with fresh sweet and savory cakes that changed from day to day, plus cappuccino, coffee, and fresh orange juice. The bar and restaurant were good too. There is a bookable cave area that's peaceful and good for relaxing. The hotel is well served, though there is no sea view. Otherwise, all was nice.

The bar, pool, and reception were lovely, and we were treated very well at first. But after we had a larger dinner, the hotel manager came over and said we should check out that night because we'd bothered a neighboring table. He even asked us to pay for their accommodation. That's absurd and not how guests should be treated, especially after we'd also used their boat services and other restaurants they own. I wouldn't recommend the place unless the manager changes.

We had an amazing stay at Santa Domitilla hotel. The atmosphere was great, with plenty of facilities, a delicious breakfast, and good service. Filippa deserves a special mention for being so professional and attentive while looking after breakfast.
