Hotel Del Capitano

The best touch was being able to use a guest bathroom for a shower after the beach on our last day, once we'd already left our room. That was genuinely useful and appreciated. Breakfast isn't provided, so you'll need to sort something out at nearby bars, and you're expected to leave your keys at reception whenever you head out. There was always someone there, even at night. I stayed three nights at this family-run hotel, managed by two kind, discreet sisters. It's about a 10-minute walk from the port, with stairs and ups and downs along the way, so it's for people comfortable getting around on foot. The room was simple, with a private bathroom, but some things could be better: the shower was small, the bathroom had no window, the sink filled up quickly, and housekeeping wasn't very thorough during my stay. It's suitable if you want simple accommodation and a family welcome without many frills, though cleanliness and bathroom comfort could improve.

The owner welcomed us so warmly and was incredibly kind and helpful throughout. You can tell this little hotel is managed with care and affection, right down to the details. It may only have two stars, but its cleanliness was impeccable and the rooms were comfortable. We spent a wonderful weekend at Hotel del Capitano and came away with lovely memories. It's just steps from the port of Ponza, so it's very convenient if you're arriving by ferry and want to explore on foot. The hotel deserves a higher rating, and we're grateful to the owner for her hospitality. We'd be happy to return.

The location, courtesy, and kindness here surpassed what we expected, and the cleanliness especially stood out. There are a few stairs to climb to reach the hotel, but we had a very good stay.
