Residence Gavila's

Lovely views, a nice location, and very friendly people. Just be prepared for a steep, winding road up to the place!

The terrace at our place wasn't very appealing, with crumbling walls, cracked flooring, and a dirty wall around it. The property could do with some updating. On the plus side, the host was very friendly and shared tips about beaches and restaurants around the island. The sea view is magnificent, and the garden is arranged to make the most of it. It's peaceful there, yet only a five-minute drive from central Porto Azzurro.

The garden and its beautiful views were a highlight, and the whole place was clean and well looked after. Laura made us feel very welcome, and we felt at home enough that we'd love to return. It's quiet and private, and good for dogs. Having a car is definitely helpful for getting to Porto Azzurro, since the walk is quite steep, even by Swiss standards 😉. There's plenty of parking at the property. They change towels and bed linen every three nights, and guests sort and dispose of their own rubbish. There's a recycling point, and we were fine with this, it seems environmentally friendly. We enjoyed driving to Porto Azzurro, Barbarossa Beach, and the great dog beach in Mola. For €3, you get two sun loungers, a parasol, and a shower for you and your dog. There are lots of lovely places reachable by car. The region is also great for hiking, though we had to cut our morning walk short after coming across wild boars.

We head home tomorrow after 15 days at Gavila's in Porto Azzurro, and I'm already missing this magical place. It's a peaceful oasis surrounded by greenery, and the location is perfect. Laura is so helpful, recommending beaches each day depending on the wind and giving clear directions if you want to visit a museum. The morning brioches are excellent if you reserve them.
