Hotel Rosa Meublè

Porto San Giorgio is a great town to break up a trip along Italy's east coast. Our room was clean and had a great view, and breakfast was included. The staff were accommodating too. Worth a stay, and I'd come back.

The rooms are clean, and the owner's son is kind, professional, and good with clients. The older receptionist, though, is very rude. Once you're in the hotel, he seems to want you gone as soon as possible so he can give the room to someone else. Breakfast is okay, but you need to be among the first guests or there may not be enough food. During my eight-night stay, I only managed to have breakfast twice, just a couple of eggs and a coffee. I hope the owner's son takes over management. Otherwise, I wouldn't recommend this hotel.

We got lucky with a last-minute cancellation at Hotel Rosa Meublé after booking late and finding all the beachfront hotels full. It's right across from the beach clubs and bars, with the town center about a two-minute walk away. There are no buildings directly on the beach since that stretch is used by beach clubs and restaurants, but Rosa Meublé is as close to the water as you can get. Our room was clean and comfortable, with a balcony, and the staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was included. At €120 a night, the price felt like a steal for the location and quality. Porto San Giorgio has a lively summer scene and a slower pace that our American friends have loved. We have family there, and it's one of those places in Italy that hasn't been overrun by American tourism. The town has miles of beaches and clear, pleasantly warm water. In July and August, the Proloco fills several miles of lungomare with food stalls and covered outdoor seating, serving fresh, authentic food from around Italy at affordable prices. There are concerts and entertainment in the town square too. Dinner at 10pm, gelato at 2am, a live band, maybe dancing on the beach. It's easy to see the appeal. For American friends looking for great food at a fraction of the price, I always say to go where Europeans vacation. One thing to know: Italian beaches are mostly operated by private lidos, so renting an umbrella and two chairs will likely cost about €18 a day. Public areas are available if you'd rather lay down a towel, but renting is more comfortable and convenient.
