La Mouette

We barely slept and left the next morning. Trying to agree on a refund with the host got nowhere, and Booking.com wasn't helpful either. The whole experience left me with serious doubts. The apartment felt neglected and unfinished. There were loose electrical wires on the walls and building work was going on right beside the bedroom. It was noisy, especially with the apartment in the city center, and the single-glazed wooden windows let in drafts. Paint smell filled the bedroom, there was a musty smell throughout, and the pillows and towels smelled bad. The towels looked like they were from our grandmother's time. The floors and surfaces were sticky, as if they hadn't been mopped for months. Windows, doors, and mirrors hadn't been cleaned. There were obvious work-boot footprints, suggesting painting had happened shortly before we arrived, and work materials were left around the apartment. The sink drained poorly, and all the fixtures had patina and rust. Our arrival had been confirmed since April, but the host only tried to clean an hour before we got there. We were asked to go out for dinner and told everything would be clean when we came back. Instead, we returned to a mess, with nobody there. It was a disaster, an unreliable listing and an uncooperative provider.
