The apartment was nicely furnished, and the view was of the port, not the sea. We rented it from July 1 to July 6, and the stay was awful. The air conditioning was listed as available, but with 30-degree heat outside, the three units in this 90-square-metre place could only get it down to 28 degrees, even with the thermostats set at 17. We asked all week for someone to fix it, with no result, and were told it was cool enough. The mosquito screen was torn, and the living-room curtain didn’t work. On the first day the shower wouldn’t drain. We asked for it to be cleaned or checked, but nobody came, and it felt like we were bathing in a tub every day. The kitchen and bathroom were also short on essentials. There was just a welcome bag with enough for washing dishes by hand for two days, and one roll of toilet paper, so bring what you need. They didn’t even ask whether we wanted a refund for the mix-up. One star because saying there was air conditioning when it could only manage 28 degrees is misleading, on top of everything else. Update, July 21: They kept the deposit without explaining why. Correction, end of July: Nobody could say why they’d kept it. I was probably blocked on WhatsApp, and when I called, they told me to send the request to accounting, if there even was an accounting department. They still said there was air conditioning, but that we couldn’t expect it to work inside with the heat that week. Update, August 11: After blocking me on several phones and not replying on WhatsApp for more than two weeks, they finally said they’d withheld the deposit because of damage we supposedly caused: a broken window screen, a blocked shower drain, and stains on the walls and ceiling. Those problems were already there. A gentleman came to the apartment the day after we arrived, and we pointed them out to him. Unfortunately, we trusted them and didn’t document the damage. You can decide for yourself whether it makes sense to keep a deposit over a shower drain that was probably clogged with sea sand.
