Hotel Marincanto

This was our third stay at Hotel Marincanto, and we could see the service and food quality had slipped. We paid a four star price, but the experience felt like three star service and food. The hotel has four stars from the regional government, but I think it should be downgraded. The manager may be part of the problem, since I tried to speak with them on all three days and they never showed up. Each day, the front desk said the manager would be in soon. The rooms need maintenance. As shown in the picture, the old, stretched wall outlets wouldn’t hold our electric converters, so we had to prop them up with books. Both the shower gel and shampoo pumps were broken and unusable. A man offered to take our bags to the room at check-in, but nearly two hours later they still hadn’t arrived. We tracked him down, and he acted as if he’d never met us and didn’t remember taking them. He led us to the luggage room, where we found and carried the bags to our room ourselves. Don’t trust the staff with your bags. At 8pm, someone from Hotel Marincanto called to ask when we’d be checking in, even though we’d checked in at 3pm. Their system seems unable to track check-ins. At breakfast, the restaurant manager, Ciro, spoke to us in jeans and a t-shirt, and we couldn’t tell if he was staff or a guest. That felt unprofessional for a four star hotel. Staff also left their clothes and bags in the common area all day, as shown in the picture. The included breakfast was low quality, with only a limited selection of poor items. The menu offered the better food for an extra charge, though all those items had been part of the complimentary breakfast on our previous two visits. The price was much higher than the service and food warranted. Hotel Marincanto and its Restaurant, Terrazzo Cele, were a disappointment.

Paolo, Dario, Natalie and Ciro all helped make our stay memorable, though the whole team was fantastic. They remembered our names, our favorite table, and even how we take our coffee. Everyone was helpful, anticipated what we needed, and went above and beyond from the warm welcome onward. Hotel Marincanto is gorgeous, romantic, and perfectly placed in Positano, with amazing views. I checked out two days ago and still feel like crying. It was one of the most magnificent hotel stays of my life, and one of the reasons I adore Positano.

Hotel Marincanto sits in a remarkable spot above the shimmering waters of Positano, with viewpoints that seem made to show off the town at its most magical. It’s iconic for luxury intimate weddings and traditional elopements, and feels like a true Italian destination wedding location. The rooms and suites blend classic Mediterranean charm with understated luxury. Inside, the mood is refined and deeply romantic, with a rare sense of privacy and calm for such a well-known setting. The staff are friendly and warm, balancing polished, attentive service with genuine kindness.

Paolo at the front desk gave us great recommendations for Positano and Sorrento, and helped us rent a boat to Capri for the day, which I’d highly recommend. Hotel Marincanto’s location was perfect, the rooms were beautiful and well appointed, and the terrace views were spectacular. I loved it and would definitely recommend it.
