The dog bit through the first layer of my two pairs of pants and left a large bruise on my backside when it attacked me as I opened the refuge door to check in. I only noticed the small sign warning about a dog afterward, and it didn't say the dog was aggressive. With just one layer of pants, or shorts, I could have had broken skin or worse. I understand having a guard dog, but an animal that immediately attacks where guests are staying is dangerous. That entrance should be locked or the dog kept on a leash. Someone has gotten seriously hurt over this, or will. After I screamed, a person from the front desk came through the door. He didn't apologize after hearing what happened, and made me feel unwelcome. I was really taken aback. I should have told him right away that the dog had bitten me badly, but his reaction made me uncomfortable. I didn't bring it up in person later either, because the place is isolated and my friend and I were the only guests that night. This happened two weeks ago and has really affected my rating.

The location is hard to beat. I stopped for ice cream on my way back from a beautiful hike, and the staff were friendly.

We only stopped in for lunch, but the meal was great and the staff were really friendly.

The food was good and reasonably priced, and you can drink the water there, which is helpful on a long excursion. The showers and bathrooms were clean. Our quiet room had comfortable heated beds and a sink. The owners were very helpful talking through our climbing plans, and they climb themselves. It’s a beautiful hut in an idyllic spot.

The food was delicious, and they had excellent bottles of local wine. It’s a traditional family-run mountain refuge in a beautiful setting. We stayed there with very young children some years ago, and it worked well for a longer visit, with proper comfortable beds. Now it also suits experienced hikers doing more advanced mountaineering.
