Saija Resort

We spent two weeks at Saija Resort, pozzallo, and the views were amazing in every direction, completely unobstructed. The location was excellent, just 11 minutes from Virtu ferries. Our three-bedroom apartment was spacious and well equipped, with a big terrace looking over the pool, sea, and countryside. Pietro, the owner, was friendly and so helpful. He did everything he could to make us comfortable and messaged each day to see if we needed anything. We had the spa to ourselves, which was amazing. The food was delicious too, especially the meat dishes, the best I've had in sicily. If you want somewhere to relax, I'd highly recommend it.

Piero was attentive to everyone's needs, and really friendly and helpful. The whole resort is kept very clean, and it's a beautiful place to relax. Five stars all round, I'd definitely recommend it.

We stayed for 11 days and had an okay time. Our upstairs rooms were spacious and lovely, with great views. They were very clean, the pillows were perfect, and the air conditioning worked great. The pool area was disappointing. We don't mind it being busy with locals, but the water was so cloudy you couldn't see your own foot in it. The drainage around the pool and spa pool seemed substandard, and both appeared to leak. There was water sitting all around them and a constant mouldy smell. The seat covers were mouldy too. The area has clearly seen better days. The owners would do well to give the pool a proper flocculant treatment and clean the seating and fake grass, even if that meant losing a couple of days' pool income. The food wasn't good. Breakfast was inconsistent and stale. For lunch or dinner, you have to tell them in advance if you're eating there, and even then there are only 2-3 oven-baked options for everyone. The menu somehow disappears on those occasions. It's also expensive compared with proper restaurants 10-15 minutes away on foot, which have full menus and cost less. Hospitality left a lot to be desired. Except for one staff member who was very nice to us, the staff were rude and judgmental. By day 6 or 7, we felt we'd overstayed our welcome, which is a strange feeling as paying guests at a place aiming to be a high-level resort, especially since we were usually out and barely around. It doesn't feel like a resort, more like someone's property, where they've added a pool and a few rental rooms to their large garden and live on site. They seem to have forgotten what hospitality means. They also didn't seem to like foreigners much, often giving us disapproving looks, talking about us, and seeming to overcharge or under-serve us whenever they could. For what we paid, we would've been better off renting a whole villa with a pool and looking after ourselves.

This family-run resort is a really relaxing place for a short stay in Sicily, about a 15-minute drive from Pozallo harbour. The comfortable rooms and large pool area make it easy to unwind, and there's a well-stocked bar. The restaurant serves typical Sicilian food too.
