American Hotel

The people are great, which makes a difference, and my valuables were safe in the room. The hotel is a bit dated, but if that suits you, it’s good for the price. Breakfast was okay. At least there was something, and for the price, what can you expect?

Loveholidays misled us. First they put us in the wrong room, which was dirty and smelly, then moved us to a superior room where the aircon and TV were broken. The Minibar was empty and dirty, wires were poking out of the aircon and just twisted together, and there was damp and mould, a problem because my partner has asthma. There’s nothing in the area, and staff warned us not to go out at night because the hotel is remote on an industrial estate. @loveholidays did nothing to help. We stayed one night and had to leave because the issues weren’t being resolved. I’ll never book with loveholidays again.

American Airlines put us up here after we accepted a layover, despite the reviews we’d read. The one star reviews are accurate. The four and five star reviewers must have stayed in an alternate universe, or never stayed at a 4/5 star hotel before! Here are the facts, without the emotion, or at least I’ll try. The public areas, including outside, the lobby, and dining room, look like vintage early 1970’s. The rooms have been renovated recently but reek of mold. The A/C didn’t work, and the front desk said the thermostat was “just on & off.” Actually, they’re the same, on IS off! There was visible black mold over the A/C unit. For lunch and supper, the dining room offered generic Italian? food, with only two options to choose from. Breakfast was a buffet and pretty decent. Guests could use an espresso machine, the best part of the whole experience. The dining room manager and wait staff were as accommodating as they could be, but the front desk staff weren’t.

Most rooms had a disgusting smell that wouldn’t go away. The rooms were terribly dirty, with hairs and visible brown stains on the sheets, brown and dirty bath water, and towels that clearly hadn’t been washed properly. The service was terrible too. When we tried to explain the problems to the hotel staff, they just offered us free soft drinks, as if that would fix anything.
