Locanda degli Dei

Praiano was a great base for us, especially since we wanted a quieter town with good restaurants and friendly locals. Getting around the Amalfi Coast can be tricky wherever you stay, but the owner explained the bus system and we got the hang of it pretty quickly. It costs 2 euros each way, and the stop right outside goes to Positano, the marina for ferries, and Amalfi. At Locanda Degli Dei, we found a beautiful room, a warm welcome, and a very Italian feel. Breakfast was brilliant, served in a lovely spot beneath the lemon trees. We had a wonderful stay and highly recommend it.

Please read this before booking. After reserving six months ahead, with payment due on arrival as the only option shown and confirmed on booking.com, we arrived shortly after 8 pm following a long day of travel and an expensive taxi. The listed check-in window was 2:30 pm to 9 pm, but there was no reception, the lights were off, and the gate was locked. We were meant to stay seven nights and were very stressed. A local passing by happened to have Ester’s number and called her. Ester said the whole booking had been cancelled because we had not paid. She had never contacted us about payment or anything else, despite the booking saying we would pay on arrival. We were left at night in Praiano with nowhere to stay for the week. That was horrible and unacceptable. We were lucky to be travelling as two people. I can only imagine how much worse it would have been alone. We had to take another taxi all the way back to Positano, then book one expensive night at a hotel at the last minute because we had no other choice. Eleven days later, we also noticed that $536 AUD had been taken from our account under Ester’s name. There was no reason for this and no message explaining it. This feels like a total scam. We have screenshots and will take it further to get our money back and try to stop this happening to anyone else.

The host was really friendly during our September trip and gave us restaurant suggestions, a bus timetable, and help locating the stops. The view is fantastic, but expect plenty of stairs up and down if you decide not to take the bus. We had a great stay and I highly recommend it.

The room was cleaned every day, with fresh towels daily, and had a minibar fridge and lovely decor. We also enjoyed the beautiful sea-view terrace and tasty breakfast. The local bus stop is right outside, which made getting around the Amalfitan Coast easier. Franco was friendly and attentive, always checking that we had what we needed and sharing useful tips. Great location, wonderful views, and a really good host. We definitely recommend it! 😍 🤗
