Open Gate

We spent five nights at Hotel Open Gate in October, when the weather was beautiful and the views were just as lovely. The staff were so kind and helpful, and we enjoyed the food, with breakfast each morning and dinner there twice. After a long day, it was a relief to have dinner right at the hotel. Getting to other parts of the coast was easy on the SITA bus. If you’re carrying big luggage, there’s storage outside the bus opposite the entrance. We also walked to other spots around Praiano. Hope we can come back someday!

The seafood at Open Gate really stood out, fresh and authentic, and cooked just right. Everything we tried was full of flavor and beautifully presented. The staff were welcoming, attentive and friendly from the moment we arrived. A great experience, highly recommended.

The breakfast was good, and we had a lovely sunrise view from this charming place. For the prices around here, this accommodation is relatively reasonable and makes a great base between Amalfi and Positano. The SITA bus stop is five minutes away. The Mobility bus to Positano stops in the car park, but you need to flag it down or it won’t stop. The brother and sister who run the hotel were lovely and incredibly helpful with all my many questions, including about activities like hiking the Path of the Gods. They were concerned about my safety and checked on me when I tried it, which was above and beyond. I highly recommend Open Gate Hotel if you visit the Amalfi Coast. Day trips don’t do these coastal towns justice.

It’s about a ten minute walk to the marina, with a bus stop right outside. Pasquale made sure we caught the bus. A taxi to the center takes five minutes, or it’s a twenty minute walk. The family keeps Open Gate Hotel spotless, and you can see how much pride they take in cleanliness and putting guests first. They made us feel right at home. We had some of our best dinner in Praiano at the restaurant. The included breakfast was great too, with something for everyone, from American options to Italian pastries, fruit and local specialties. We’d visited Praiano before, but only now discovered this gem. Between the view, food and wonderful hospitality, it was an unforgettable stay. I’ll be back.
