The gate staff made a judgment about us because we arrived in a “campervan,” then refused us entry to the marina. Our 5.4M Hymer Fiat Ducato van was new, clean, had no stickers, and fit in a regular parking space. At least three other Ducato vans were inside, all larger at 6M, because they were treated as working vehicles. We explained that ours also fit a normal space, but the woman at the gate decided that its campervan use meant it shouldn't be allowed. We had come to look at a boat for purchase and had no invite, but our vehicle wasn't outside the usual parking allocation either. They didn't even call the vendor to check, despite him being a long-term vendor with a permanent business space and a well-known boat broker. That gate interaction created a problem for a vendor who pays the marina and has done so for a long time. A quick call to the administration or vendor could have avoided it. Instead, the staff member said she was afraid her superiors would hear she'd let an undesirable into the marina. The whole thing left a terrible impression of customer service and made it uncomfortable to raise a question or concern with management, especially as a customer. I wouldn't wish this experience on anyone, being judged by how you look. That's my opinion, and should be taken as such.

Well, what more is there to say?

A quiet, out-of-the-way port with no excess, and still a high-quality place despite looking dated. It's a historic sailing hub and a haven for anyone who loves the sea, facing the Tuscan archipelago.

A real pity, because it's certainly a beautiful spot. The road stops at a barrier, leaving barely any space to turn around, and there's no parking nearby. The marina isn't open to the public, which could be a real problem if you're travelling by motorhome.
