Palazzo Degli Antoci

My seventh trip to Sicily was the first time I felt such a close connection with local people and culture. We came to Palazzo degli Antoci because of its style and location, but the stay far exceeded what we had imagined. It felt like stepping into a beautiful novel, in a five-generation palazzo in the heart of Ragusa. Our room was bright with sunshine and furnished with antiques from both sides of the family. Raffaella, her husband Giovanni, and their family welcomed us with warmth, generosity, thoughtfulness, and real pride in their heritage. The breakfast each morning was elegant and beautifully laid out, with local specialties they took time to introduce. It felt like a cultural experience in itself. Soon after we arrived, my husband developed a serious, highly contagious infection from our travels the previous week. The family never pulled away or made us feel like a burden. They stayed calm and caring. Raffaella called her personal doctor, who came quickly, and immediate treatment helped my husband avoid a deeper infection and possible pneumonia. The family arranged pharmacy visits, X-rays, and even blood tests at the palazzo. They also made patient food for him every day. Because of his condition, we extended our stay from three days to nine. We left deeply grateful, not only for the comfortable property but for meeting people whose integrity and humanity we truly respect. Some stays are comfortable, some are beautiful, and a few, like this one, become rare poetry in memory.
