Agriturismo Le Buche di Viesca

I grew up nearby and came back to Tuscany to visit relatives. I didn't actually stay in the apartment, but from what little I saw, I wouldn't come back. There are better options around here. I'd especially avoid it in winter. At the end of my stay, I was surprised by an extra €70 heating charge for just two days. We also ran out of toilet paper and I had to get some from my relatives, though I can't put all the blame on the property since I could have let them know sooner. The worst part was being disturbed at 8 or 9 on a Sunday morning to settle the room bill. I really have no words.

The agriturismo is kept in excellent shape, with comfortable apartments that have everything needed for a pleasant stay. Help is always available and thorough. There's a lovely pool with sunshades, plus a covered, furnished area right beside it where we all had lunch. Another outdoor guest area works for meals throughout the day. You can also use the washing machine and barbecues, which were cleaned for me after I used one. I spotted horses and sheep after looking around, and the reception staff were pleasantly courteous. I think extra virgin olive oil may be available to buy. It's in a quiet spot, away from the bustle but still near amenities, discount stores, a shopping center, and a large pedestrian square just a few kilometers away. Florence and Siena are also close enough to be a real plus. A little Tuscan setting that could be straight out of a film.

The good parts were the clean, well-kept property and its very pleasant pool. Florence is easy to visit by regional train, which is convenient. The location around the property wasn't among Tuscany's prettiest areas. It's near both the highway and railway, and the trains could sometimes be heard. Getting there also means passing through an urban area that has its charm. Our apartment was clean, though dated. Sleeping was the main problem: the soundproofing was poor enough that we heard the neighbors, and the worn spring mattress left us with bad backaches. Our terrace also wasn't like the website photos. Those showed a private space without anyone opposite, but the neighboring terrace was only two meters away and there was no divider. The welcome felt cold, without the warmth we expected from an agriturismo.

We've tried three different apartments here and been happy with each one. They're very clean, and fresh sheets and towels come weekly. The owners or managers greet us like family, and the place itself has been lovingly restored and is lovely to look at. The pool is popular and has plenty of loungers. We enjoy the quiet and beautiful surroundings, away from everyday bustle, and the secluded setting suits us. Cars can park under cover, though rain may leave bits of straw on the paint; it washes off easily. There's a Lidl nearby, open even on Sundays. Florence is about 40 km away, so you'll need a car. For a taste of Tuscany, this has been just right for us. The property is a feast for the eyes.
