La Casa di Ermelinda

This might be OK for a single night while waiting for a flight or train, but I’d avoid a longer stay. The room cost about twice as much as the others even though it had basically the same setup, and there was no benefit to paying more. The listing said drinking water was provided. At the start of my 17-day stay there were two large and three small bottles, about 3.5 liters total for all the guests. After a day or two, it was tap water. I had to buy drinking water and carry it up the hill and stairs. Parking was whatever you could find on the street. As far as I could tell, Ermelinda had no dedicated parking space. There was a coffee maker, and they put out store-bought pies or toast. The cake I saw at the start was still there at the end. My room was cleaned once during my two-week stay. I was told there’d be a second cleaning, but the cleaner didn’t arrive that day. The next morning I got a call saying she was coming, then another in the afternoon saying she was on the way. She finally showed up at 6 PM. Since I was settled in and didn’t want to leave during the cleaning, as I’d been told to do, I just asked for fresh towels. The host made me uncomfortable. He knocked early one morning to ask for the third pillow back, even though my room had one large bed, one small bed, and three pillows, and I’d paid about double what other rooms cost. Another time he got me out of bed to tell me to open the windows, saying closed windows caused condensation and a bad smell. There was a bad odor, which I thought was coming from the bathroom. I suspected the drain pipes might not have traps. I opened the windows despite the cold weather that week, around 18 degrees in the daytime, and then got swarmed by mosquitoes at night. To his credit, he provided repellent when I asked. The listing said checkout was at 10 AM, but he asked me to leave at 8:30. It also said English was not spoken.
