Steve and Alessandro were genuinely friendly, and Steve was especially helpful when the airline lost my luggage for five days. The breakfast, served in the building around the corner, was always great. There was a big self-serve selection, and if that wasn't enough, you could also get separately cooked things like scrambled eggs or cheese toasties. The setup worked perfectly for what I needed: a base for touring, with a kitchen-diner, toilet, and bedroom that were clean, comfortable, and practical. Maybe not the most modern rooms, but that added to their charm.

I booked B&B Sangiorgio for a month while interviewing for jobs, and once I arrived I was stuck because nothing else was available in that area. I chose it for how easy it was to get around on foot, by bus, or by train. The condition of the place was a real disappointment. There was mold in the fridge and the floors were dirty from the moment I arrived. Steve, the owner, said someone would come the next day to clean them. They swept, but didn't mop, so I asked Steve for a mop and bucket and did it myself. The water was black. The blankets said to be fresh had stains too. I took photos and video and sent them to Steve, but he didn't seem to treat it urgently and sometimes didn't reply. I also didn't know he'd be out of the country for two weeks during my stay, so I had no way to sort things out. Just terrible. There was no breakfast at that location. Steve kindly invited me to his other property, Casa Lagana, for it, but in the off season there weren't many choices, usually the same cornetti or cookies for days. The breakfast room is in a very old attic that isn't appealing to look at, though you can sit outside on the roof, which is very nice. I wouldn't stay there again. Since then I've found plenty of better options. Live and learn, I guess.

B&B S. Giorgio made a comfortable base for exploring Salento, and we had a great time there in early August. Biagio and Maria Pia were discreet but attentive hosts, offering timely suggestions that helped us make the most of the area. The rooms were clean, equipped, and well appointed, and there was outdoor space for breakfast or relaxing. The newly built green building is carefully maintained, reflecting the owners' commitment to environmental issues. Melpignano turned out to be a strategic place to stay, central to the main attractions. The town itself was a lovely surprise, with its architecture and historic spots: the Marquis' Palace, the Church of San Giorgio, the Augustinian Convent, and the arches of the small 16th-century covered market. We'd gladly return, and expect Biagio and Maria Pia's family-style hospitality to be part of future stays in Salento.

The building is very old, though well maintained, and the place feels a bit anonymous. Service was okay.
