Villagio Camping La Scogliera

The restaurant has a great view of the Strombuli and serves very tasty food. Capo Vativano is only 900 m away. We'd read plenty of negative reviews, but can't confirm them. The order isn't the best for us, and the place seems to be visited mainly by Italians. After Camping Marina Dell Isola didn't answer any of our inquiries and seemed to have no room, we drove about 18 km farther. They received us warmly, despite the adventurous approach, with a steep slope on the long driveway. We could choose among several pitches and picked one in the second row with a great sea view. It's a lovely, very quiet site, especially the beach. The many caravan corpses are really irritating and spoil the view completely. Sanitary facilities were simple Italian standard, but very clean.

We hired canoes and explored the amazing nearby coastline, and watched the sun set over the sea by Stromboli. We stayed a few nights in May and loved it. The campsite is right by the beach, basic but has what you need. The toilets were clean, and there's a small restaurant serving good pizzas. We'll definitely come back!

The view and beach are beautiful, with small pebbles, and this is the best campsite in the area, which says more about the area. Still, it could be a wonderful spot for camping, but it feels run with greed and pettiness, offering the bare minimum through cheap labor. When I arrived, the receptionist was asleep, and nobody was there to replace her. Nobody around knew the camping prices. The WiFi didn't work during my stay, even though it was charged for, and they don't tell you on arrival that the showers cost extra. The restaurant is expensive for what it is. They have a wooden oven, yet use canned mushrooms on the pizza. Hairdryers didn't work, and maintenance started before 8 in the morning and woke me up. The nearby village isn't interesting.

The beach and clear water are the real draw here, and the location is beautiful. The woman at reception, who I think is the manager, was kind, and the coffee bar guy made a great espresso. A couple of practical things caught us off guard: Wi-Fi and phone reception were mostly limited to the restaurant, with unreliable signal in the apartment, and the air conditioning was only in the hallway. We worried about that at first, but ended up leaving it on and being fine. The place could use a serious refresh. The tent and caravan restroom has an ugly metal door with a big WC written on it in marker, and the caravans looked more like a junkyard than storage. We know it's under new management, but the appearance and some staff manners need attention. We enjoyed our couple of nights and hope the place gets the care it could use, because it has real potential.
