Being surrounded by so much nature makes you slow down right away, and respect for it comes naturally. It’s a place that can make you rethink what you value, what you’re aiming for, and what “wealth” really means.

We stayed in a lovely double room, though the shower was in a separate spot. The house’s Walser-style architecture was great, and the staff were friendly. Both dinner and breakfast were excellent. I’d happily come back, especially if walking the GTA, since it makes a great stop.

The owners are warm and welcoming, the food is excellent, and the prices feel very fair. You can only get here on foot, and once you arrive, it’s all quiet and peaceful. The name really does fit: it’s a refuge. I’d happily spend a full day here just relaxing.
