I booked a vacation through Booking.com, then got an email from the hotel with extra charges for basic things: air conditioning at 5€ per day, a requested baby cot at 12€ per day, the beach, and more. These fees hadn’t been described. I wrote in English and they replied in Italian. The surprise was so unpleasant that I cancelled, giving that as my reason. After that, they kept messaging and insulting me. It was unacceptable and completely unprofessional. I was shocked by the lack of manners and the extreme arrogance. I’m glad I cancelled after the booking experience. Be careful, and be ready for insults if you object to whatever they say you owe. These people are out of line.

There’s nothing good I can say about this place, if it can even be called a hotel. The staff were terribly unfriendly, and the rooms were filthy, with lots of dust under the bed. Four of us were put in a room sized for two. The walls are paper-thin, so you hear everything, and the doors don’t shut properly either. The restaurant was awful. I can’t even write about what we found there. They charge 5 euros a day for air conditioning, and reception wouldn’t open the document in the email, then wanted to fine us. Terrible. Avoid this hotel.
The location was spot on, but I can’t praise anything else about Hotel Sabbia D'oro. After traveling over 1000 kilometers, we were met by a very rude landlady at the information desk, with no courtesy at all. The rooms were disastrously small and dusty under the bed. Food was very bad, and there was very little of it. We found something like a snail in the water. It’s a big shame for a hotel, or even an ordinary two-star place. Treating guests who have come from far away like this is a disgrace for the whole of Italy.
I stayed in a one-star hotel after this place and it felt like a five-star upgrade. Maybe the worst hotel on earth. Shabby, brown, dark, sweaty, skanky, like a relic from the 70s. I don’t know how it’s still open. The staff are nice and friendly, but they like gathering their mates in the foyer and drinking late. That’s fine if you’re 20 and single, but not when you’re traveling with kids. I’ve stayed in better-kept hostels. Bad memories, Mum, bad memories indeed. This feels like an old shag nest that belongs in Ibiza. If you offered me a week in Venice and half a million euro cash, but I had to spend a week in this hotel first, you’d be going to Venice without me. Weird place. I suppose it might be alright if you were renting it by the hour with some random hooker you’d just picked up.
Everything was cool, but no one at the hotel could speak English.
