Hotel Schönblick

For a place that's “only” 3 stars, it almost feels like 4. It was very clean and quiet, with lovely views and very good breakfast and dinner. The price-quality ratio is amazing!

The view from the hotel's beautiful setting was breathtaking, and the rooms were spotless, though I didn't find them cozy. There was just a small table, two chairs, and a bed. I would have liked more comfort and service, perhaps complimentary water or a sofa. Even so, we were glad to be there, despite feeling unwelcome. My husband and I are vegetarians and don't drink alcohol. We clearly noted on the menu that we don't eat meat, but the owner himself still served my husband a schnitzel. He ate it only to be polite. We also got the sense that the owner was bothered because we weren't spending enough on drinks. When we asked to extend our stay by two days, we were told the hotel was fully booked. After two nights, leaving was fine in retrospect. The price-performance ratio felt completely off. Dinner was fantastic, but the breakfast buffet was a no-go for us: mostly sugary cereals and yogurts, plus lots of meat and sausage, which was really difficult as vegetarians. The boiled egg was perfect, though. The rolls were the worst we've ever had, huge but mostly air. With this review, I don't mean that the hotel made no effort. We just didn't fit the profile of the “desired and profitable guest,” and I'm sorry we can't give a better review.

Klaus was a great host, funny, helpful, and likeable, as well as an entertainer, hiking guide, and friend. He and the team run Hotel Schönblick with real passion, and we felt welcome from the start. The homemade regional food was top-notch, full of tradition and care. Our room was spotless and beautifully situated, with a view that lifted our spirits each morning. This small, privately run paradise is all about peace, quality, and warmth. There's no mass tourism or frills, just a genuine piece of home with soul. We love returning to the Schönblick, a feel-good place with character that you'd almost want to keep secret, though that would be a shame.

The service and food were superb, with nothing to complain about. Everyone was hospitable and had a sense of humor. Top-notch all around.
