Il Giardino di Riomaggiore

We stayed at ca’ di Dodo, at via Colombo 25b. It was very nice and clean, and the owner sent us all the information we needed over WhatsApp. Good service.

The welcome was simple and friendly, and the rooms were comfortable and clean. The accommodation is spacious, in the pedestrian area, and has parking, which can be hard to find in Riomaggiore. The bathroom supplies were a bit limited and modest in quality. Still, it’s an excellent option for a short break in the Cinque Terre.

The postcard view is magnificent, and the Cinque Terre really is beautiful to discover on foot. But it takes effort, especially with the steep slopes and stairs everywhere. Don’t come with heavy luggage or dress shoes. If you arrive by the very narrow road in the evening, watch out for wild boars. Parking can be a problem. The only lot may be at the very top of the village and cost €35 a night. The owner made us think he had parking, but it seemed to be given to whoever he wanted, and arriving late meant we didn’t get it. The room was okay, though a little musty. I’d take the train, visit, and leave, especially if there’s a weather warning, since everything, including the restaurants, may be closed. It’s a magnificent place, but be ready for the effort.

Our ground-floor room had an outside-facing wall completely covered in damp. The smell inside was unbearable, and the sheets and pillows were all damp too. When we brought it up, the owner showed no concern and offered neither a solution nor another room. A horrible experience.
