All in all, we’ll be back. The location right in the center was the reason we chose this hotel, and it was perfect. The rooms were clean and okay. Dogs are allowed, but there’s a fee. The AC didn’t really seem to work, though sleeping with the window open was fine; it might be hot in summer. Getting there can be a little awkward because you have to drive into the pedestrian area, where people may look at you strangely. You can park there for 20 minutes, but tell reception your license plate to avoid a fine. After that, the hotel has spaces in a public garage with a separate entrance, and you should reserve one before arriving.

After 32 years, this was my first holiday abroad, and I can’t fault the Grand Hotel in Riva. The food, facilities and staff were all great. It’s very central for shops, restaurants and ferries. I’ll certainly be back.

We didn’t get a good night’s sleep during our four days here. The beds had high and low spots and were very uncomfortable, and certain staff were rude. The room was dusty and not properly cleaned, and the shower had weak pressure. Room 313 isn’t really a lake view room, it looks out at two trees and boat parking. I was so disappointed to have paid extra for that.

The heated outdoor pool on the fifth floor looks out over the lake. We also had a huge room with a comfortable bed, a big shower, coffee maker, kettle and Smart TV. The food was very good and the staff were absolutely friendly. The hotel is right by Lake Garda, with restaurants, cafés and shops just outside. I was surprised how quiet it was at night.

The location is great, and the balcony has a beautiful view. The room was clean but basic: there was no table for the kettle they provided and nowhere to put toiletries in the bathroom. The patio doors were cracked, and the balcony was dirty and needed repair. Restaurant food was average. Riva Grand is a basic 3-star hotel.
