Compared with the other family hotels we've stayed in, this was just okay overall. The food, though, was phenomenal, and the location was great. We could use the bikes free of charge and ride the trail down to Riva Del Garda. We felt safe even with our six-year-old riding on his own. The kids club staff were caring and did a great job, but the schedule was awkward. It closed from 12:30pm until 5:30pm, then opened for an hour and closed again at 6:30pm, before reopening around 7:30 or so. We had to hurry through morning activities to get back in time to pick up our youngest. Maybe it's a local custom, but soft drinks, including water, weren't included with meals, apart from breakfast, where all drinks were included. You had to order and pay extra. It didn't cost a lot, but it took away from the experience after staying at other Kinderhotels with coffee, tea and soda available all day. We booked hotel Gioiosa early in the year for our summer holiday and had really been looking forward to it.

The only real drawback is the location, up the hill and too far away to enjoy exploring on foot. Otherwise, the hotel and staff are fantastic. Rooms have what a family needs for a good stay, food is top quality at both breakfast and dinner, and the service is great without being overbearing.

The hotel didn't live up to our expectations, though it didn't ruin the holiday. Lake Garda is beautiful and there's plenty to do. At €320 a night, this felt very overpriced. It's a 10-15 minute drive from Riva Del Garda, which works if you plan to stay around the hotel, as it seems set up for that. It's less convenient if you want to spend time enjoying the food and events in town. The place seems designed for a particular kind of tourist and doesn't handle guests well if they don't want a fixed schedule for meals, activities, travel and sleep. German speakers seem to be the main focus. Staff can cater to other languages, but not as well, so we weren't sure what was available and missed out on some things. I'm also not sure how kid-friendly it is. A staff member shouted at my children for spinning in a reception chair while I was reading a local tourist guide, and they were wary of her afterwards. We had a small family comfort room, so expect to tiptoe around if the kids sleep before you. Outside lights go off at 11pm, and the balconies have no private lighting, so you'll be sitting in the dark if you want a glass of wine outside.

We were a couple on our own among quite a lot of families, as you'd expect from the hotel's name, and still had a great time. Our Panorama Ibisco room was very spacious, clean and comfortable. The lake view wasn't particularly special since the hotel is some distance away, but we really liked the outdoor space. Staff were friendly and fluent in Italian, English and German. Breakfast was phenomenal, the pool and grounds were beautiful, and there was plenty of parking. We'd love to return and make time for the hammam next time.

Breakfast came with fresh products, and free parking was a plus. The rooms were very clean, and the staff were friendly all day long.
